Organic Wine Of The Month - May 2010
The Summerhill Vineyard comprises over 80 acres of which approximately 50 are planted (20 acres are given over to wetland and nature habitat). Vines grown here in the central part of the valley produce intensely flavoured ripe grapes with mouth watering acidity. This particular terroir is ideally suited to producing sparkling wine cuvee, as well as enchanting aromatic whites, and the elusively difficult heartbreak grape, Pinot Noir.
Summerhill purchases additional grapes from small certified organic vineyards in the southern part of the valley, where the climate is even hotter and drier, and where the Bordeaux varieties can be grown with miraculous results. In fact, these European vinifera are flourishing in the northernmost desert viticulture region of the world.
Summerhill Pyramid Winery is located in Kelowna. It is a short drive to the winery from any location within city limits.
