So You Think You Can Dance?

So You think You Can Dance?

Subject to society's politics and whimsy, the popularity of certain dances have waxed and waned over the decades, so that certain dances have been discarded altogether or merely altered to fit shifting social tastes.

A ball or impromptu party might feature any combination of different dances, depending on what was most popular at the time. Though the dance trends varied through the years and among class lines, one thing was certain: where there was dancing, joyfulness followed.

Storm Chasers

Storm Chasers

Storm chasing is broadly defined as the pursuit of any severe weather condition, regardless of motive, which can be curiosity, adventure, scientific exploration or for news / media coverage.

A person who chases storms is known as a storm chaser, or simply a chaser.

While witnessing a tornado is the single biggest objective for most chasers, many chase thunderstorms and delight in seeing cumulonimbus structure, watching a barrage of hail and lightning, and seeing what skyscapes unfold. There are also a smaller number of storm chasers who chase hurricanes.

IV's are going groovy cool.

IV's are actually working!

My coughs clearing up, my lung pain has vanished. I'm impressed with the quickness of them this time. They're not usually this quick. Usually it takes a week to kick in.

I'm on the antibiotics that I'm usually put on- Ceftazadime and Tobramycin. Ceftaz is an easy Bolus, where as Tobra is through drip as it has to go in over more than half an hour.

Paul's making my IV's up for me, I'm administering them.

So, I have twice a day:
10mls Saline
3g's Ceftazadime in 30mls water for injection
10mls saline
5mls Hepsal

Then once a day I have:

Raving Club Drugs

2
points

Across the country, teens and young adults enjoy all-night dance parties known as "raves" or "rave clubs" and increasingly encounter more than just hard pounding techno-music and flashing laser lights. Dangerous substances known collectively as club drugs are frequently used and distributed here.

Rave clubs are often promoted through flyers and advertisements distributed at other rave clubs, in record shops, clothing stores, on college campuses, and over the Internet.

I feel so weak

point

I feel so weak and tired and generally just poorley. Any little thing is just wiping me out.
I've had to ring up and call in the troops early, so rather than starting IV antibiotics next Monday, I am starting them in 2 days time instead.

I feel like I'm being such a wuss because of this. Surely I could wait just a few more days. But I'm just in so much pain and I'm so fed up, and I really just want to give in and sleep now.

What is Methamphetamine?

3
points

A drug with immense abuse potential, methamphetamine (known on the street as "speed," "meth," "crank," "crystal-meth," and "glass") is a central nervous system stimulant of the amphetamine family. Like cocaine, it is a powerful "upper" that produces alertness, and elation, along with a variety of adverse reactions. The effects of methamphetamine, however, are much longer lasting then the effects of cocaine, yet the cost is much the same. For that reason, methamphetamine is sometimes called the "poor man's cocaine."

At every important stage of our lives, it seems that nurses are present. Instructing, comforting, listening, and healing, nurses are there when we arrive as newborns, when we begin our own families and when the challenges of serious illness and old age emerge. This week, May 6-12, is National Nurses Week, celebrated in recognition of the priceless contributions nurses have made to our quality of life.

WHO Pandemic Alert - Flu

A World Health Organization spokesman says the agency may raise its pandemic level to its highest alert, signifying a swine flu pandemic. WHO uses a six-level scale to assess the world's risk.

Last Wednesday, the agency raised the level to 5. Level 6 means a global outbreak of swine flu is under way. WHO spokesman Dick Thompson says Monday the direction WHO will take "will be dictated by the virus."

I'm back, with funner Cystic Fibrosis physio ideas

I've been away for a week to Cleethorpes. Not far from where I live, but far enough for it to feel like a real holiday break away.

Caravan seaside holidays can really sometimes be the best. Especially when coupled with sunshine.

What is swine flu?

It's a form of influenza that commonly affects pigs and, more rarely, humans.

Can I get it from eating pork?

No.

What are the symptoms?

They're similar to more common strains of influenza: fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Some people also report coming down with a runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

How to Stop Child Abuse in a Public Place

2
points

It can be uncomfortable to watch a child mistreated by an adult who's out of control. Fortunately, there are things you can do to help.

Start:

Start a conversation with the adult to direct attention away from the child. Say something such as:

"Children can wear you out, can't they? Is there anything I can do to help?"

"She seems to be trying your patience."

"My child has gotten upset like that too."

"He has beautiful (eyes)." - this can encourage a more positive mood for the parent

Divert:

Talk to the child to divert the child's attention if misbehaving.

Natasha Richardson - Epidural Hematoma

Tony-winning actress Natasha Richardson died of a brain injury after falling on a ski slope.

The cause of death was epidural hematoma (bleeding between the skull and the brain's covering).

As a school nurse, I am finding many of the children that bump their heads and their parent's have a hightened fear of a closed head trauma after reading Natasha's story.

Busy busy busy

I've been keeping myself busy-not that you can tell from the title of course.

Last week a friend of mine, sent me a challenge-a challenge to beat her on Mario Kart Wii. Wow such fun, and such an awsome connection when this friend of mine is all the way over in America. I won some games, she has won some games. It's been fun, and we've been chatting through the Wii too.

I do have sore wrists and arms because of this-but I can live with pain caused from having fun-definately feels worth it.

Cystic Fibrosis sucks when you recognise an infection.

2

I'm feeling a bit down and out now,
after spending days and days in pain. I've had my first sign of chest infection today-well the first sign that can't be linked to anything else, because I've been feeling dead on my feet and tired out for weeks now. That had been put down to depression.

Today, I took my first notice of sputum colour. I've kinda of being ignoring it and just not looking for the last week whenever I've coughed, as last week was yellow and I didn't wanna keep seeing that. Todays was green, very green-definately not yellow no more.

Today

Had an interesting letter today.

My consultant sent me a letter, saying I was hopfeully reassured because my muscle enzymes are only just above normal level *256* when normal should be 15-200 in Creatine Phospho-Kinase levels (CPK).

I'm kinda annoyed as that's not an explanation to why I'm in pain really is it? Ok, so my levels aren't sky high at 2,000-25,000 again........But that means there must be another reason I'm in pain, and I bet it's not even been looked into.

Mental health: Overcoming the stigma of mental illness

Progress is being made to remove the stigma of mental illness and mental health disorders.

You've probably heard the hurtful words before — words like "psycho" and "schizo." Or you've seen the jokes about mental health on television referring to "loony bins" and characters in straitjackets.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder Tests and Diagnosis

2
points

To help diagnose generalized anxiety disorder, mental health providers perform a thorough psychological evaluation. They ask many questions about your worries, fears and emotional well-being. They may also ask about any obsessions, to make sure that you don't have obsessive-compulsive disorder. You may also fill out psychological questionnaires. And you may have a physical exam to check for any other health problems that may be causing generalized anxiety disorder symptoms.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

3
points

It's normal to feel anxious or worried at times. Everyone does. In fact, a moderate amount of anxiety can be good. Anxiety helps you respond appropriately to real danger, and it can help motivate you to excel at work and at home.

But if you often feel very anxious without reason and your worries disrupt your daily life, you may have generalized anxiety disorder. Generalized anxiety disorder causes excessive or unrealistic anxiety and worry — well beyond what's appropriate for a situation.
